join us for the preview of easy does it, Thursday 6th June 7-9pm

Carwyn Evans | Fiona Curran | Hannah James | Jo Addison | Jo Coupe | Kevin Hunt | Leo Fitzmaurice | Littlewhitehead | Sean Edwards | Tom Godfrey | Tom Ireland

Aid & Abet are pleased to present easy does it, the second in an evolving trilogy of exhibitions curated by Kevin Hunt examining the complexity inherent within the simplest of actions.

Bringing together works by Carwyn Evans, Fiona Curran, Hannah James, Jo Addision, Jo Coupe, Leo Fitzmaurice, Littlewhitehead, Sean Edwards, Tom Godfrey and Tom Ireland alongside Hunt’s own, these exhibitions seek to question the highly crafted, time consuming pursuit of making art via a conglomeration of objects and artefacts created with ease. Presenting a world where the seemingly trivial can be proven to produce powerful and surprisingly sublime effects.

easy does it at Aid & Abet follows the first exhibition at David Dale Gallery & Studios in February 2013. The third and final part opening at Supercollider in Blackpool on August 23rd 2013.

exhibition contines until 7th July.

We are pleased to introduce our next exhibition, Landmark Seizures, curated by Sender Brocken, opens this Thursday 2nd May between 12-7pm.

Landmark Seizures is a project of overlapping research enquiries with impromptu events and workshop activity taking place every Saturday until the special closing event on Saturday 25th May.

Visitors will be able to participate, engage and witness the process of artistic thinking and making as the project evolves across the whole warehouse space. This will manifest through live and recorded performances, workshops, skill shares, discussions and lectures concerned with education and political practice, technology and value. An example being The Sitting Room University’s “Toward an Ecology of Resilience” a workshop to collectively design and build a media hub based around the Raspberry Pi and incorporating ‘hacked’ computer and electronic hardware.

Visitors are encouraged to return more than once to encounter changes on a weekly basis. We look forward to your contributions.

Follow activities on our news section and at Landmark Seizures

The four works that constitute this programme of experimental film and video art each explore some of the essential characteristics of cinematic form. The imagery comes about from an approach to practice that is to do with distinctive processes, which are the evident in, and as, the content of the work. A particular concern of the four works is the representation and illumination of volume and depth. Anthony McCall’s seminal film Line Describing A Cone (1973) is a work that explores the literal space between the projector and the screen, via the beam of the 16mm projector through smoke. Neil Henderson’s Tidal Island (2012) is a time-lapse film that documents a curious circular landscape feature, which unexpectedly fills with seawater and then empties with every change in tide. Simon Payne’s three-screen Iris Out3 (2008-12) involves flickering colour fields in patterns that contract and expand, suggesting depth, but also resembling an eye that returns the gaze of the viewer. Jennifer Nightingale’s East Window West Window (2013) is the most recent film in her series of pinhole films, in which the lens is made by a pinhole and the mechanics of the camera are replaced by hand-winding: the locations in which she makes her films are traced by unconventional means.
